Throwback: Thessaloniki

It's the time of the year when I crave  some vacation. Even for a few days. To just hop into a plane and go somewhere I've never been before. And then I go back to reality and think of all the things that holds me back from doing it. One of my new year's goals though is to travel more, so let's hope I can have more travel experiences until the end of 2017.

For now, I can just imaginary go back to last summer and remember some memories from my last vacation in Thessaloniki, Greece. I will forever cherish this trip because it was the first vacation I had with my boyfriend. Although we had some major difficulties due to his broken foot (long story) , we managed to have a great time!

It was my first time visiting Thessaloniki and I loved it. Even though we stayed there for a week and couldn't leave the city to explore other places, we didn't get bored at all. We had tons of things to do and the days just flew by really quick. We stayed at a hotel in the center of the town close to all the shops and taverns so we could just walk to wherever we wanted to go.

One thing that made a big impression to me was the people. I have visited other places in Greece before but people in Thessaloniki were more carefree, friendly and fun. They could just randomly start talking to you like they knew you for years. We met some really lovely people there who helped us a lot with our staying.

Food is another thing that we enjoyed while staying in Thessaloniki. You can find anything, from the traditional Greek Gyros to a nice american style burger house. And of course you wouldn't resist trying some of their pastries such as trigona panoramatos. In the evenings we usually visited Ladadika which is a well known area there, filled with taverns and places to eat and enjoy some drinks along with some Greek music.

We also enjoyed shopping there. We visited the standard brand stores and malls, but we even went to the -as they call it- ''Chinese''  neighborhood where we found a lot of bargains there. Thessaloniki is a well known city when it comes to shopping. Many boutique owners here in Cyprus choose to bring their stock from there.

Overall, we made some wonderful memories in Thessaloniki and it's a city I would gladly visit again.  It's a perfect destination if you would like to go somewhere for relaxation, affordable quality food and shopping, and endless walks by the sea!
